Hapkido Vancouver Offers an Introduction to Self-Defense

Hapkido Vancouver offers a two hour seminar designed for workplace wellness programs, team building, and corporate social events. If your team likes escape rooms and go karts, they’ll also enjoy hands-on experience with practical self-defense.

The seminar covers techniques that everyone can use regardless of height, age, or gender. We focus on situational awareness so that you know when to use a technique; and principles behind it, so that you understand why it works. Our goal is that participants will remember what they’ve been taught even if they never take another class.

No groin kicks! This isn’t 1985. We teach moves that we ourselves would use; nothing is watered down for the uninitiated. We also won’t be doing any pad work. Punching and kicking are not your best choices for staying safe, and it requires more than one seminar to learn to do effectively. Instead we focus on gross motor movements involving joint manipulation, unconventional striking, and a bit of grappling.

The seminar will be majority participation. The tempo will be casual and the spirit will be social. Instructors will demo a technique and provide some explanation. Then participants will pair up and experiment. Instructors will monitor and provide guidance so that everyone has fun and stays safe.

It was really great, and so informative!
